Magnetic Therapy Bracelets: Are There Any Satisfied Customers?
For the person who uses the magnetic therapy bracelet there is little that can be said about them. These health aids either work or they do not. There are many people who stand by what they have experienced. For instance one person comes to mind who has not removed their magnetic bracelet for over twenty years. A severe sprain caused major damage to the wrist. This person claims that within two months of wearing the bracelet all pain is gone and the wrist is functioning perfectly.
This may well be the case. The problem is trying to prove this point according to the rules set out by the scientific community.
Studies
Many studies have been done where the test subjects were to wear a magnetic wrist wrap for a period of forty five days. The results were inconclusive. The reason was because no one could tell whether the pain had actually subsided as the test subjects reported, or whether it was the placebo affect making the patients believe the magnets had worked.
Although the people involved in the study reported a 75% reduction in pain and discomfort, there was still no definitive proof this was the case. The healing affects could not be measured. Not like in electromagnetic therapy where the bones are actually seen to heal. Static magnetic therapy is not used to heal bones or other injuries. It is used to alleviate pain. The pain threshold is different with every person. There is no true way to measure it beyond what the patients themselves say.
The Food and Drug Administration ruled that without definitive proof that static therapy worked it was illegal to advertise the health benefits of the magnetic therapy bracelets. The manufacturers have to rely on their product being in demand from word of mouth accounts of decreased pain and discomfort. Many consumers are indeed passing on their positive impressions.
Satisfied Customers
There are many styles of magnetic therapy bracelets on the market today. Although it is no longer allowed to be advertised as a health aid, people are still claiming the benefits. Many satisfied customers are purchasing the bracelets for family members and other loved ones who may benefit from the therapy.
As with any home remedy or alternative type of medicine, there are risk factors. You should never begin a medical treatment without first consulting a doctor. He or she will know whether the alternative treatment can be of any benefit. There is not enough research to determine what the affects of magnets have on the human body. One thing is certain, people with pacemakers or other electrical devices implanted should not use magnetic therapy. The magnets could possibly have a negative affect on the other devices in the body.
There are always going to be people who feel their magnetic therapy bracelet is the only thing keeping them from feeling pain. This may or may not be true. The only way to tell is if you personally invest in one to find out for yourself. Further clinical research is being done. Hopefully, someday there will be a way to test this theory so we can all satisfy our intellectual curiosity about the benefits.
